President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered the Cabinet to immediately prepare stimulus to boost tourism that has been affected by the spread of Coronavirus or Covid-19.

“I met with Minister of Finance this morning. We still calculate the discount for foreign tourists, but roughly we can offer  30 percent off the real tariff; we will make the final decision later,” President Jokowi said when delivering his introductory remarks at a Limited Cabinet Meeting on Improving Indonesia’s Tourism Ranking at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Monday (17/2).

According to the President, tourist destinations that are going to get the discount will be determined in the next three months. “The stimulus also includes an equal discount for domestic tourists or travel agents can probably offer additional discount up to 50 percent, for example,” he added.

President Jokowi expressed hopes that the stimulus plan will help to stimulate our tourism industry to withstand the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

Previously, the Head of State, on Tuesday (11/2), at the Bogor Presidential Palace, also called on ministries/institutions to spend their budget as early as possible to boost the country’s economy that affected by the outbreak. (FID/EN)
