President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (01/08) underscored that wage increase for civil servants, national military and police (TNI/Polri) personnel must be determined through careful calculations and considerations in accordance with the country’s economic situation.

“Since our fiscal and economic situations are different each year,” President Jokowi told the press after inaugurating Pamulang-Cinere-Raya Bogor toll road at the Main Limo toll gate, Depok city, West Java province.

The Government, President Jokowi added, will make careful calculations and assessment based on the latest situation before making a decision.

“If our fiscal position is under external pressure, be it by COVID-19, trade war, or geopolitical situation that make [the increase] impossible, we won’t do it,” he said.

The Head of State also expressed hope that this year’s wage increase can boost people’s purchasing power as well as economic condition. He also announced that a regulation on the increase will be issued immediately.

“We will issue the regulation as soon as possible,” President Jokowi remarked. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (GWH/MMB)
