President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said that in the past 4.5 years, Village Funds have been used to enhance village development such as constructing 191,000 kilometers of village roads, 24,000 Integrated Health Posts (posyandu), 50,000 Early Childhood Education Program (PAUD) centers, and 8,900 village markets.

“Village Market is important since it is a place where all products from farmers, fishermen and micro-village businesses are bought and sold,” President Jokowi said during the National Gathering of Village Administrators, at Indoor Tennis Stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/4).

The construction of 58,000 irrigation systems and 1.1 million meters of bridges were also funded by Village Funds. “Infrastructures development must be carried on because the budget allocation for this Funds will also increase every year,” he added.

President Jokowi went on to say that village residents must procure construction materials from the village and hire local workers in developing infrastructures, so Village Funds amounting to Rp 257 trilion will be optimally used, and will not return to the Central Government.

On that occasion, the President added that the Government will simplify the Village Funds Reporting process if the procedure is still complicated. “I will instruct Minister of Villages, Development of Underdeveloped Regions, and Transmigration to coordinate with Minister of Finance concerning the simplification of the report,” he said.

President Jokowi also asserted that Village Heads currently have responsibility to manage big portion of funds. Therefore, operating funds must be allocated beforehand so the Village Heads are able to control and supervise the circulation of money in the villages effectively.
