President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called for acceleration of construction of Patimban Port in Subang Regency considering the port plays an important and strategic role in economic growth and trade in West Java province.

“The Port serves as a complement to Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok port, not as a competitor,” said the President in his introductory remarks at a virtual limited meeting on the Acceleration of Patimban National Project from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java province, Tuesday (22/9).

The President also expressed hope that the completion of Patimban Port which is part of ‘a triangle of economic growth areas’, namely the Patimban port, Kertajati airport, as well as the Bekasi, Karawang and Purwakarta, will make the areas serve as an interconnected industrial area.

“Therefore, it has competitiveness, particularly for export products and more specifically in the automotive sector. I’ve delivered several times to speed up the completion of the Patimban port,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also noted that the northern coast of Java, which is already connected to the toll road, must become a super economic corridor.

“Given that the infrastructure and facilities are relatively more ready, every industrial area, tourism area, agricultural centers must be connected to this toll road,” he said. (FID/EN)
