Gov’t to Start BAZNAZ Members Selection

Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs will conduct the selection process for Prospective Members of the BAZNAS from communities and prominent figures for the period of 2020-2025 as the members of the National Zakat Board (BAZNAS) for the 2015-2020 period are going to end their term of service.

Based on the provisions of Law Number 23 of 2011 on Management of Zakat (alms), Deputy Chairman of Selection Committee for the BAZNAS members, Janedjri M. Gafar said that the BAZNAS membership consists of 11 members.

“Eight members are come from the communities and prominent figures, and three members from government entities which appointed by ministries/institutions related to zakat management,” Janedjri told the press in Jakarta, Tuesday (3/12).

According to Janedjri, the BAZNAS is an independent non-structural government institution and is responsible to the President through Minister of Religious Affairs.

“One of the functions and duties of the BAZNAS is to planning, implementing, controlling, reporting, and being responsible for the implementation of the collection, distribution and utilization of zakat,” Janedjri said.

For the record, the selection process will consists of several phases, namely administrative selection, psychological test and focus group discussion test, competency test, hearing the input from the community, medical check-up, and interview process.

The requirements to be eligible to join the selection are as follows:

  1. Indonesian Citizen;
  2. Muslim;
  3. Have faith in Allah SWT;
  4. Have good character;
  5. Minimum age requirement is forty years old;
  6. Minimum education requirement is bachelor degree;
  7. Competent in zakat management;
  8. Have integrity;
  9. Physically and mentally healthy;
  10. Not a member of a political party;
  11. Not involved in banned organizations; and
  12. Never been convicted of a criminal offense that is sentenced to imprisonment for a minimum of five years.

The registration for administrative process will be open from 6 to 19 December 2019. All the required documents may be submitted either directly to the Selection Team secretariat at Ministry of Religious Affairs, Jl. MH Thamrin No 6 Floor 9 Jakarta 10340, or sent by email.
