President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Admiral Yudo Margono, Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and local government officials to address forest fires in several regions.

“I have ordered Commander of the TNI, Chief of the Police, and regional government officials, to immediately address the forest fires,” the President told journalists in Jakarta, Saturday (10/07).

According to the President, the air temperature in Indonesia is higher than normal and a long dry season has the potential to exacerbate forest fires in several regions.

The President further said that the existing forest fire control is better than the situation in the 2015 forest fires.

“We can handle it well. If we compare the situation with the forest fires in 2015, the current situation is much better,” the President remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN)(RI/MMB)
