The Government is open for input from the public regarding Job Creation Bill which has been proposed to the House of Representatives (DPR), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“I think the DPR will also welcome input and suggestions through a public hearing,” President Jokowi responded to reporters’ questions on Job Creation Bill after attending the National Coordination Meeting on Investment, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (20/2).

The President went on to say that this is only the first step in the lawmaking process; it takes 3-5 months for the Bill to become a law.

The Government, he added, called for the DPR and ministries to receive public input, suggestions, and to hear their appeal.

“Therefore, the Government can accommodate (public input) through ministries before receiving the approval from the DPR,” the President stated.

Regarding public appeal, President Jokowi asked the public to read the Bill carefully before they voice their criticism to the Government.

“Once again, it is only a Bill; it has not been enacted into a law. So, associations, unions, or the public in general may provide input to the Government, ministries, and to the House. We welcome them to do so,” the President concluded. (FID/EN)
