President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo attended the opening of Indonesian Retirees Week at Balai Kartini, Kuningan, Jakarta, Tuesday (25/9).

In his remarks, President Jokowi asked members of the Association of Indonesian Civil Servant Retirees (PWRI) about 13th salary and Holiday Allowance (THR). The President invited those who have not received the salary and the allowance to come to the stage.

“I want to make sure that all of you have received the 13th salary and the THR,” the President said.

President Jokowi further said that the Government will continue to pay the 13th salary and the THR next year to increase people’s purchasing power and boost economic growth. However, the President added, the inflation should also be maintained to maximize the impact of the salary and the allowance.

“The increase of the salary will be meaningless (if there is inflation), so we have to maintain (the inflation). President Jokowi said.

On the occasion, President Jokowi also reminded the participants that Indonesia is a big country and asked PWRI members to remind people about that.

Indonesia, the President continued, has 263 million people living in 17,000 islands, 514 regencies and cities, and 34 provinces, spread from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island.

“Indonesia is blessed by the Almighty God with diversity, differences, and colors. We have different religions, different customs, different traditions, different tribes, and different regional languages. We often forget these facts,” President Jokowi said.

Therefore, President Jokowi invited all PWRI members to continue to spread the concept of diverse Indonesia to the public and spread the message of unity, brotherhood, and harmony.

The President further said that many people do not realize that Indonesia is a big country, full of differences, and there is a need to maintain the harmony among all differences that Indonesia has.

Also present during the event were, among others, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Villages, Underdeveloped Regions and Transmigration Eko Sandjojo, Minister of Social Affairs Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, and Chairman of PWRI Haryono Suyono.
