Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, delivers a press statement, on Monday (2/5), at the Presidential Office, Jakarta

The results of an independent team consists of experts from several universities including Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), University of Indonesia (UI), and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) concluded that the National Sports Development, Education and Training Center (P3SON) project in Hambalang, Sentul, Bogor, West Java, can be resumed.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said that the result of the evaluation has been submitted to President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo in a limited meeting on Monday (2/5) at the Presidential Office, Jakarta.

“Thus, as Cabinet Secretary has previously reported, the President agreed to resume the Hambalang project. However, due to several requirements proposed by the experts team, the project can be resumed with several notes to adjust the supporting capacities,” Basuki told the reporters, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta on Monday (2/5).

Quoted the results of evaluation by the independent team, Basuki considered the implementation of the Hambalang project was like a general practitioner who dealt with heart disease.

Basuki explained that currently the team has been truly studying the project from three aspects: geology and engineering geology, movement of the soil, and building.

From the aspect of building, Basuki added, the buildings are in good condition, while from the aspect of movement of the soil, the only one which moves is pile-soil. Therefore, Basuki added, the next construction must really pay attention to the supporting capacities.

“Because it lies above Jatiluhur formation, namely the clay shale, study on movement of the soil must be carried out as a requirement. Therefore, we need to check the previous foundation of the building until the bottom of the bed rock. Then, the water management must be conducted as well,” Basuki said while mentioning that the clay shale is very sensitive.

Therefore, President Jokowi provided time to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. “Well, then the study must be finished within this year, but the project will be resumed later,” Basuki explained quoted President Jokowi.

Basuki also considered it is still possible to build 11 buildings in the complex considering its supporting capacities. “Maybe, we do not need to construct 11 buildings, and maybe we need to cut the floor from the previous 8 or 6 floors,” Basuki explained.

Basuki also said it needs study to determine whether the utilization of the project is still for National Sports Development, Education and Training Center or not. “We will wait the study until 2017, because we are currently focusing on the Asian Games. That is the point,” Basuki stated. (DND/FID/ES) (RAS/EP/YM/Naster)
