Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo asks Governors, Regents, Mayors, and members of regional legislative bodies not to pay any working visit to other countries from 1 April to 30 April 2019.

“(The regional leaders) should maintain political stability in the regions during the 2019 simultaneous elections,” the Minister said in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/3).

Tjahjo added that they have strategic roles to improve public participation and to work with various institutions to maintain political stability in their respective regions during the election period.

He went on to say that the regional leaders should conduct the following steps to maintain stability prior to the election:

First, to monitor problems that can disrupt the election as well as to provide solutions to the problems in accordance with the leadersÂ’ authority;

Second, to work with religious leaders, traditional leaders, community leaders, youth leaders and all elements of society;

Third, to maintain political stability prior to the election by cooperating with other relevant agencies to mitigate potential problems;

Fourth, to support election organizers to run a smooth election process; and

Fifth, to maintain security on the voting day (17 April 2019).

The recommendation aims to realize a safe, peaceful, conducive and orderly election next April, under the principles of direct, open, free, confidential and fair election. (Puspen Kemendagri/ES)
