Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo has announced that Ministry of Home Affairs will not obstruct approval of overseas travel permit application submitted by regional heads.

“Permits will be granted after Ministry of Home Affairs coordinates with related parties,” the Minister said after attending the opening of the 2019 Indonesia Development Forum in Jakarta, Monday (22/7).

Tjahjo stated that according to the regulation, the Ministry has to coordinate with Ministry of State Secretariat and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to verify the need to travel, the expected benefit for the respective region and its people. He also said that the entourage must not exceed five people.

“We do not obstruct nor hinder, but limit (the overseas travel). It is essential to consider the importance of travel,” Tjahjo said.

Previously, the Minister has issued letters of notification Number 009/5546/SJ and Number 009/5545/SJ on Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Submission of Application for Official Overseas Travel Permit to all governors and regents/mayors in Indonesia.

The letters regulate that permit, dispensation, or concession application submitted must be given approval or refusal by government institutions/officials no later than 10 (ten) working days since the application is received unless stated otherwise in the provisions of laws and regulations.
