Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has urged regional governments to immediately update the COVID-19 data.

This instruction was issued following an inaccurate report of the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in several areas due to data mismatch.

“Please look at the data carefully because in several regions, the data of positive cases come from the outdated ones,” Tito said on Saturday (4/9).

Tito also cited an example of one region which has a sudden increase of death rate and turned out that the data was the accumulated death toll from the previous weeks.

“After we looked at it, it turned out that the death toll was accumulated from the previous few weeks, not the most updated data from that week,” he said.

For that reason, the Minister also urged each regional government to hold a coordination meeting regarding COVID-19 data input system.

This data input, Tito added, will greatly determine the government policies in controlling the pandemic in the future, one of which is in determining the level for the public activity restrictions (PPKM). (PR of Ministry of Home Affairs/UN) (EST/EP)
