Home Minister Urges Regional Heads to Boost Regional Expenditure

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has called on 548 regional heads to immediately realize the use of the Regional Budget (APBD) to boost regional economies affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Minister, this is in accordance with Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2020 on Increasing Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols in Prevention and Control of COVID-19 issued by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“There are 2 topics that we will discuss, namely massive dissemination of health protocols related to the COVID-19 and budget realization as well as acceleration and support of the Central Government,” Tito said during a Coordination Meeting, Tuesday (11/8).

Based on data as of 9 August 2020, realization of provincial regional budget averaged at 37.90%, while the national average is at 47.36%.

Based on the data, there are only five provinces whose expenditure are above the national average, namely Jakarta Special Capital Region at 54.06%, South Kalimantan province at 52.49%, West Sumatra province at 51.88%, South Sulawesi province at 50.25%, and Gorontalo province at 48.81%.

Meanwhile, ten provinces whose regional budget expenditure realization was below the national average but above the provincial average are among others, Bali province at 47.03%, Banten province at 43.76%, and Yogyakarta at 38.39%.

Furthermore, there are 19 provinces whose realization below the provincial average and two provinces whose realization was even below 25%, namely Southeast Sulawesi province at 24.56% and Papua province at 21.57%. (PR of Ministry of Home Affairs/EN)
