Ministry of Home Affairs is stunned by regional heads suspected to have been involved in the case of transaction of positions and warns them to avoid corruption.

“It is embarrassing that there are still heads of regions arrested in sting operations by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), especially in the case of transaction of positions,” Head of Information Center of Ministry of Home Affairs Bahtiar stated, in Jakarta, Saturday (27/7).

The statement was made in response to the recent arrest of Kudus Regent Mohamad Tamzil and eight others in a sting operation regarding the transaction of positions, Friday, (26/7).

The Ministry, Bahtiar added, has warned regional heads to stay away from areas that are prone to corruption.

“We often warn (them). Moreover, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo has encouraged regional heads to stay away from areas prone to corruption. (For the records), we brought every newly appointed governor to visit KPK, as a reminder,” he said, adding that there are also Coordination and Supervision of Prevention (Korsupgah) of the KPK in the regions, so the act to avoid corruption will depend on one’s integrity.

These corruption-prone areas include budget planning, grants and social assistance funds, local taxes and levies, procurement of goods and services, and transaction of positions. (Information Center of Ministry of Home Affairs/ES)
