Huge Potential, President Hopes for Ongoing Papua Street Carnival
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo hopes that the Papua Street Carnival event will continue in the coming years. He believes that this event, which is being held for the first time in Papua, has the potential and great strength to uplift the creative industry in the eastern region of Indonesia.
“This Papua Street Carnival is the first of its kind, and from what I see, the creative industry in Papua has a tremendous amount of material, potential, and strength,” said the President after opening the Papua Street Carnival on Friday (07/07) in Jayapura, Papua.
Furthermore, the President emphasized the importance of careful planning and good management to produce better exhibitions in the future.
“It needs to be planned for years in advance, organized well, packaged well, and branded well to produce a product like what we have seen today,” he said.
The Head of State also hopes that local governments can take over the organization of events that can stimulate the growth of the creative economy in Papua.
“This is the beginning of the emergence of many creative industries in Papua. And we hope that this will continue to be managed by the region itself, managed by young Papuans themselves, because it is currently supported by the central government,” he concluded. (MAY/UN) (AS/EP)
