Hyundai Prepares 346 Units of Electric Cars to Support 43rd ASEAN Summit

The Government through the Ministry of the State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) received 436 units of electric vehicle (EV) IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 from PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) on Friday (08/11).
The handover of the vehicles, which will be used as the operational vehicle of the 43rd ASEAN Summit on September, was carried out at the Hyundai Horizon of Innovation Booth at the 2023 GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show 2023 (GIIAS 2023) in Tangerang regency, Banten province.
In his remarks, Secretary of the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) Setya Utama expressed gratitude for Hyundai’s support for Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023.
“These cars will be used for spouses of the leaders of the attending countries, for Foreign Ministers of ASEAN Countries, and for security forces such as the Presidential Security Details (Paspampres),” Setya said.
Setya said that the Government and the national committee require certain specifications for the official vehicles that will be used at the Summit, such as exterior and interior design, comfort, and battery quality that is adjusted to endurance and mileage.
“By the end of August, [the cars] will be delivered and tested by the Paspampres personnel who will be responsible for driving the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. All officers who are set to drive the units during the event will be trained to recognize the vehicle functions and have driving experience. Of course, it will then be sterilized for use at the Summit,” he said.
Setya added that the national committee will also prepare shuttle buses and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) as transport facilities connecting accommodations with the event locations, which are mostly located in Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex area.
In addition to the 43rd ASEAN Summit, Hyundai is also set to provide 208 units of vehicles for Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Summit, which will be held in Bali next October.
President Director of HMID Woojune Cha expressed his pride to contribute to the 43rd ASEAN Summit and the 2023 AIS Summit.
“We are also pleased to continue the trend of synergy with the Government after we previously provided a fleet of vehicles for the G20 and 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo. Not only IONIQ 5, we also provide a fleet of Hyundai’s latest electric vehicle, IONIQ 6 as a vehicle for VVIP delegates,” he said, adding that the support shows Hyundai’s commitment to the country’s vision and mission in sustainability.
“IONIQ 6 is expected to support the smooth organization of this international event, to jumpstart the electrification era of the Indonesian automotive industry, and to become a renewable mobility solution for Indonesian people,” the Woojune Cha said.
Previously, at the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo in May 2023, Hyundai also gave support by providing 117 units of IONIQ 5. Meanwhile, at the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali, Hyundai provided 450 units of electric cars, including the Genesis Electrified G80 and Hyundai IONIQ 5, which were as the official vehicles for delegates.
