President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said he appreciated Idrus Marham’s decision to resign from his post as Minister of Social Affairs because the latter wanted to focus on his issue with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“I appreciate Idrus’s commitment to face legal issues he is implicated in,” the President told the press after the inauguration of Golkar party politician Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as new Minister of Social Affairs, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday (8/24).

President Jokowi also stated that he respects the KPK’s authority in handling the issue.

Regarding Agus’ appointment to replace Idrus Marham, President Jokowi explained that this was done because there is an urgent matter, namely post-quake relief efforts in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province.

“Therefore, I immediately decide on the replacement (of the Ministerial position),” the President said, adding that Agus was appointed due to his experiences in welfare issues in the  Golkar Party.

President Jokowi told Agus to immediately address issues in West Nusa Tenggara province, as well as issues in preparation of the distribution of the Family Hope Program (PKH) next year. (RAH / OJI / ES) (STU/EP/Naster)
