At the opening of the 7th Training for Forming Ulema Cadres in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (8/8), President Joko “Jokowi” clarified an allegiation about him being a foreign stooge, clarified the issue of foreign workers in Indonesia, and also straightened out a misunderstanding that he is not “pro Islam”.

The President feels suprised with this issue because he is a Muslim. He often meets with K.H. Ma’ruf Amin (the Chairman of Indonesian Ulema Council). Even, every week, the President visits Islamic Boarding Schools. “Why? Because I want to personally find out the real problems,” the President further said.

According to the President, the Government has also established 40 miqro waqf banks in Islamic Boarding Schools. Every bank receives Rp40 billion as their initial capital.

The Government has a plan to establish more waqf banks and to also establish a partnership. For example, the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Garuda Food has cooperated to grow peanuts in East Java.

This kind of partnership will improve people’s economy. Without this kind of economic approaches, the gap between the haves and the have-nots will be widened.

Therefore, President Jokowi asked people not to be trapped in political issues and asked all to stop accusing others. In his view, these issues arise because of the regional heads as well as presidential elections.

Also attending this event were Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko and Chairman of United Development Party (PPP) Muhammad Romahurmuziy. (DID/ES) (MMB/YM/Naster)
