Idul Adha to Fall on 11 August: Religious Ministry

Pengumuman-Idul-AdhaThe Government has announced that the first day of Dzulhijjah 1440H falls on Friday, 2 August 2019. Thus, Idul Adha  Day (Islamic Day of Sacrifice) falls on Sunday, 11 August 2019.

The decision was made in an isbat meeting led by Director General of Islamic Community Guidance of Ministry of Religious Affairs Muhammadiyah Amin representing Minister of Religious Affairs at a press conference held at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Office, Jakarta, Thursday (1/8).

The decision is based on a consideration that the position of new moon is already above the horizon, which is between two degrees four minutes and three degrees 57 minutes.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission VIII, a number of Ambassadors from friendly countries, representatives of friendly countries, a number of Islamic organization leaders, and a number of officials of Echelons I and II of the Ministry.

“All participants of the isbat meeting have agreed that 1 Dzhulhijjah falls on Friday  2 August 2019,” Amin said.

Prior to the isbat meeting, Hisab Rukyat Team of the Ministry delivered their presentation and explained about the position of hilal in Indonesian territory and in other countries. This data is also supported by rukyatul hilal reports from 92 spots across the country.
