In a bid to affirm the inclusion of local residents of Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan province in the development of New Capital of Nusantara (IKN), Chairperson of Authority of the IKN Bambang Susantono Wednesday (07/20) said that the Government will provide trainings to them.

“We are working together with elements of society such as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), academicians, State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) and companies through CSR (Corporate social responsibility) to provide upskilling and reskilling [trainings]. Provide skills that will be beneficial for the locals of IKN area that affirm their position as an integral part of the IKN development,” Bambang said after joining a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

During the meeting, he told President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo that a number of preparations for the construction are underway, such as land consolidation, land clearing, and establishment of access for logistics. Thus, the initial construction is expected to begin in August and the full-scale construction will start next year.

He went on to say that the Authority will conduct a survey in August to find out the interest of the people in the inclusion of IKN development.

“Basically, we work not only on the physical development; we build an ecosystem from a livable city. And that is our target in 2024, so that in the future there will be a complete urban ecosystem consisting of educational facilities, health facilities, daily facilities, and also facilities connected to the amusement center, for example how to get there and the like. All of these will be connected with the center of the Government in the IKN,” he explained.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also ordered the Authority to prepare for the construction so it can begin on track in 2024. (TGH/UN) (RAS/MUR)
