President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo emphasized that the development of Nusantara Capital (IKN) is aimed to achieve economic equality and create new economic hubs.

This statement was conveyed by the President before the press after a tree planting event at JIEP urban forest, Pulo Gadung Industrial Zone, East Jakarta, Wednesday (11/29).

“Economic equality, population equality, new economic hubs, I think those are what we aim for. However, it cannot be realized only in one or two days, one year or two years,” President Jokowi said.

President Jokowi reiterated that Indonesia’s economy is centered mainly in Java island with GDP reaching 58 percent of the national GDP. With the development of IKN, new economic hubs are expected to emerge, not only in Java island, but also outside Java island.

“From 17 thousand islands that we have, 58 percent (of the national GDP) is concentrated on Java island, so we want to make it Indonesia-centric, other islands can also experience economic growth, other islands outside Java island can have new economic hubs, that is what we hope for,” he remarked.
