IKN, Jakarta Ready to Host 79th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence

During the 2024 Independence Month, a series of events will be held both in the Nusantara Capital (IKN) and Jakarta, as said by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno on press conference of the Independence Month, at Ministry of State Secretariat, Jakarta, Thursday (08/01).

Pratikno explained that a series of events under the theme “New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia” will show a transition of capital relocation from Jakarta to the IKN and also a transition of the ruling government to the new government. The events to be held within a month and will be opened with a national dzikr and prayer.

“Similar to last year, the series of events of this year’s Independence Month will be opened with national dzikr and prayer held at the Merdeka Palace in the afternoon that will be attended by ulemas and religious leaders, and more than 3,000 participants,” he further explained.

In addition to that, the inauguration of the national flag-hoisting troops (Paskribraka) by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will be held in the IKN, the Medal of Honor Award will be held at the State Palace, Jakarta, as well as the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia on the Bill on The State Budget for the 2025 Fiscal Year and Its Financial Note will be held at Nusantara Building, Indonesian Parliament Complex. He added that the call of honor and sacred reflection will be held both in Jakarta and the new capital.

The Minister stated that the ceremony of the 79th Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence will be held following the Western Indonesian Time zone. This ceremony will be led directly by President Jokowi.

“President Jokowi will act as the ceremony inspector in the IKN. The flag-lowering ceremony will also be held in two locations, namely the IKN and Merdeka Palace, Jakarta,” the Minister said.
