IMF Applauds Indonesia’s Economic Condition Amid Global Uncertainty
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Saturday (05/20) held a meeting with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva at the Rihga Royal Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan.
According to the IMF Managing Director, Indonesia’s economic growth remains stable in the face of global economic uncertainty.
“In the midst of global economic situation which is characterized by a lot of uncertainties, Indonesian economy is quite good and stable with economic growth far above the average of global economic growth,” Kristalina stated.
During the meeting, President Jokowi pointed out that Indonesia’s economy is expected to grow by 5.1 percent this year and 5 percent next year.
In this regard, the IMF expressed hope that Indonesia can participate to provide assistance to other developing countries.
“IMF expects Indonesia to assist other developing countries, especially in poverty alleviation programs,” Kristalina said.
The IMF Managing Director also conveyed that Indonesia plays an important role in establishing relations and communicating with all parties amid the current global situation.
“Indonesia can talk with all countries, all parties. In the midst of a world that is facing many challenges as today, we need more roles like the ones played by Indonesia,” she added.
In addition, President Jokowi also welcomed the launch of the IMF’s Global Policy Agenda and the establishment of an early warning system.
The IMF Managing Director also expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s success in hosting the G20 presidency in 2022 and the success in convening the 42nd ASEAN Summit.
“Congratulations on Indonesia’s success in running the G20 presidency last year and also the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo this year,” Kristalina remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RIF/HD)
