Indonesia-Africa Forum to Generate Strategic Cooperation

The Government is preparing to host the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF), scheduled to take place in Bali from 1-3 September 2024.

Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Pahala Nugraha Mansury Tuesday (08/27) said that the forum will be attended by 855 participants from various countries. A High-Level Forum on Multi Stakeholder Partnerships Forum (HLF MSP) will also be held in concurrence with the IAF. The HLF MSP which is a cooperation between Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) is expected to involve up to 1,500 participants, including delegates from African countries and Global South countries.

The Vice Minister added that six heads of state have confirmed their attendance and 11 ministers from African countries have confirmed that they will be speakers at the event.

“Heads of state who have confirmed their attendance are from Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Ghana, Liberia, Eswatini, and Zanzibar representing Tanzania,” he said, adding that the IAF and HLF MSP will also involve private sectors and SOEs that are predicted to generate agreement worth up to US$3.5 billion.

The 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum with the theme “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063” will focus on issues related to energy, health, food resilience, and mining. This forum will also serve as a momentum to strengthen concrete relations between Indonesia and Africa, which will be used as a foundation to fulfill enormous potential for our shared development.

“Indonesia and Afrika shared quite similar development agenda. We indeed have abundant natural resources and demographic bonus, but we still need to ensure how cooperation and potentials can be used in a development agenda,” he said.

He went on to say that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo instructed related institutions to ensure adherence to health and security protocols during the event given many heads of state and leaders will attend the forum. (FID/DNS) (RAS/LW)
