Indonesia and Pakistan Advance Collaboration in Defense, Investment, and Multilateral Forums

Ambassador of Pakistan to Indonesia Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri delivers a press statement following a meeting with President Prabowo at Presidential Palace complex on Thursday (02/12).

President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (02/12) welcomed a delegation from Pakistan at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The meeting underscored the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening their strategic partnerships across various sectors, including defense and multilateral relations.

Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri highlighted the longstanding historical ties between Indonesia and Pakistan, which dates back to the period before both countries achieved independence.

“Pakistan and Indonesia are two brotherly countries. We have historically enjoyed excellent bilateral relations. And I am so glad to say that this relation between our two people in the street, even before the independence of both our countries,” said Zahid at the press conference after the meeting,

Pakistan and Indonesia have developed cooperation across multiple strategic sectors, and this collaboration has grown stronger in recent months, he continued.

He added that President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Pakistan last month marked an important milestone in advancing bilateral relations between the two nations.

“Last month, when the Indonesian President His Excellency Prabowo Subianto visited Pakistan, I would say that was a complete turnaround in our quality—very good bilateral relations,” he said.

The Ambassador also noted that high-level visits between the two countries have intensified. These include recent visit to Pakistan by Indonesia’s Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Minister of Investment and Downstream, who also serves as CEO of Danantara Rosan Roeslani, as well as a visit to Jakarta by Pakistan’s Minister of Health.

“And we will very soon be having other high-level engagements between Pakistan and Indonesia,” he continued.

Regarding geopolitics and cooperation within the Islamic world, Zahid emphasized the significance of collaboration between the two countries, which together represent a quarter of the global Muslim population.

He also underlined the strength of their defense cooperation, noting that it has been well managed and will continue to be further enhanced.

“As I mentioned earlier, Pakistan and Indonesia—we have excellent cooperation in all areas, including defense sector collaboration. We have been training Indonesian armed forces officers, and we will continue to enhance our bilateral defense sector collaboration,” he emphasized.

The Ambassador also expressed Pakistan’s hope for Indonesia’s role in Developing Eight (D-8) forum, emphasizing Pakistan’s strong support for the upcoming D-8 Summit in Indonesia.

“Pakistan places high hope in Indonesian chairmanship of the organization, and we look forward to working with Indonesia for the success of the forthcoming Summit in Indonesia and also for the success of D-8 as an organization of cooperation among the D-8 countries,” he concluded.
