President Prabowo Subianto and President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed their commitment to continuously promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Palestine and Gulf de-escalation. Both Heads of State, on Sunday (10/11), conveyed this statement during a joint press release at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
President Prabowo announced that he and President El-Sisi had exchanged views on a range of global and regional issues. Both countries viewed coordination, consultation, and close cooperation as crucial measures in navigating international dynamics.
“We highlighted the importance of our two countries continuously maintaining coordination, consultation, and cooperation in various international forums,” President Prabowo stated.
President El-Sisi shared a similar view. He stated that the various conflicts currently occurring in several regions of the world pose a threat to regional and global security, peace, and stability. Therefore, Indonesia and Egypt agreed that dialogue and diplomacy must serve as the primary avenues for resolving various issues.
“We have also agreed to ensure that everything is resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, respecting the sovereignty of all countries, non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations,” President El-Sisi specified.
Regarding Palestine, President Prabowo further expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence and various actions impacting civilians. Indonesia and Egypt also highlighted the importance of respecting international law and human rights.
“Regarding Palestine, we are both deeply concerned about the violence, violations of international law, Israeli military operations, provocative actions, actions that violate human rights, as well as the use of disproportionate force, which have resulted in the loss of innocent human lives,” President Prabowo said.
President Prabowo also condemned the construction of illegal Israeli settlements, which is seen as further exacerbating the situation. According to him, Indonesia maintained the view that a two-state solution is the path to achieving peace in the Middle East region.
“In our view, and Indonesia holds this position strongly, the establishment of a Palestinian state based on a two-state solution is the only path to peace in the region. We are fully committed to supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for self-determination and a life in peace,” President Prabowo affirmed.
President El-Sisi also made the Palestinian issue a key topic of discussion during his meeting with President Prabowo. He stated that developments in Palestine have a significant impact on regional stability.
“Regarding the Palestinian issue, which was a major topic of discussion between the two of us, we must pay close attention to what is happening there as it will impact stability in the region,” President El-Sisi said.
The two leaders also affirmed their support for the realization of an independent Palestinian state. President El-Sisi called the establishment of a Palestinian state the path to comprehensive peace.
“That is the only way to achieve comprehensive peace,” President El-Sisi underscored.
In addition to political and diplomatic efforts, Indonesia and Egypt agreed to continue contributing to the provision of humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people, including supporting the recovery and reconstruction process in Gaza.
“Indonesia and Egypt continue to agree to contribute to advancing the peace process and providing immediate humanitarian assistance to Palestine, including for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza,” said President Prabowo.
Concerning the broader Middle East situation, the two Heads of State called for restraint and respect for national sovereignty, international law, and the United Nations Charter. President Prabowo warned that an escalating conflict not only impacted civilian safety but also had the potential to disrupt global stability and economy.
“We continue to advocate de-escalation, restraint, respect for sovereignty, international law, in accordance with the UN Charter, while emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. Any escalation will have a highly detrimental impact on civilian safety and global stability, especially the global economy,” President Prabowo concluded.
