Date 14 September 2021
The Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are ready to provide security for the G20 events to be held next year, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has stated.
“The TNI and Polri stand ready to provide security during Indonesia’s G20 Presidency in 2022, and will tackle all possible disturbances,” Mahfud said in a press conference on Tuesday (09/14).
Mahfud said that the Government has prepared security procedures for G20 delegates in all events, including high-level meetings, ministerial and central bank governor level meetings, Sherpa-level meetings, deputy-level meetings, working group level meetings, and engagement group level meetings.
“Security procedures will refer to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and guidelines from TNI Commander, Polri Chief, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) because the events involve heads of states and heads of governments and have something to do with the dignity of our nation. The measures to provide security on the ground will be taken in a firm and respectful manner,” Mahfud said.
The Coordinating Minister said that the Government also continues to make logistical and infrastructure preparations for the events, including the preparation for standard services, protocols, consular services, accommodation, logistics, transportation, and venues.
Regarding the communications and media, he added, the preparation includes carrying out communications with media, selecting a main theme for the Indonesian Presidency, as well as preparing an application system for tracking and tracing measures to control the spread of COVID-19.
“We have also prepared communication strategies to improve people awareness on benefit from the Indonesia’s G20 Presidency, and to garner international sympathy and support,” Mahfud said.
Mahfud went on to say that the Government will provide type-A health facilities, daily flights from G20 member countries, business class flights, VIP facilities at airports, VIP vehicle services, certified 5-star hotel facilities, Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environment sustainability (CHSE), and the availability of internet network and information technology support.
The National Committee for the Indonesia’s G20 Presidency, he added, will also prepare meeting places consisting of plenary room with a minimum size of 900 square meters as well as supporting rooms (dining room, secretariat, exhibition room, information center, and others).
“The National Committee will also hold a number of side event agendas in the forms of exhibitions, cultural performances, and promotion of domestic products in several locations, with strict implementation of health protocols,” Mahfud said.
The Coordinating Minister further said that the assessment for COVID-19 pandemic development at the location of the event will be carried out two months beforehand. The assessment includes vaccination rate above 80 percent, active cases below 50 cases per 100,000 population, availability of type A hospitals, the availability of a molecular isothermal device or PCR, isolation rooms for not less than 10 percent of the total delegates, inpatient ward for not less than 10 percent of the total delegates, and ventilator facilities for not less than 2 percent of the total delegates.
“I invite all Indonesian people to actively play a role for the successful 2022 G20 events” Mahfud remarked. (SLN/UN) (RI/MUR)
