Indonesia has a great potential to become the key player in Electric Vehicle (EV) battery industry since the country has the world’s biggest reserves of nickel, a raw material of Electric Vehicle battery and development, according to Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

“Indonesia is considered as the center (of nickel). In fact, several international articles illustrate a growing dependency on nickel. As a country with the biggest nickel reserves and production, Indonesia is clearly the center of attention in terms of Electric Vehicle battery development,” the Minister said as quoted from the website of Ministry of Finance, Tuesday (16/03).

Therefore, Sri Mulyani added, the Government is committed to making the most of this technology trend that has been predicted to continue to rise.

“With the increasing environmental awareness, the current trending topic is motorized vehicle that transforms rapidly, particularly the shift from fossil fuel to renewable fuel or Electric Vehicle battery that has been forecast to dominate motorized vehicles in the world,” she stated.

The Minister further said that the Government is also committed to global actions on climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions or CO2; hence, the move to reduce emissions in the transportation sector by pushing for the development of electric vehicle industry.

“We will decrease 29 percent of our CO2 emissions with our own effort or we will cut CO2 by 41 percent in 2030 if there are international support and collaboration.
