“Indonesia is Key Partner in Energy Security, Global Stability”, President Lee Says

President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung Wednesday (04/01) underscored the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation with Indonesia amidst increasingly challenged global dynamics.

President Lee stated that Indonesia-the Republic of Korea’s partnership plays a key role in maintaining the stability of global energy security.“We are very assured to know that Indonesia has consistently provided a stable supply of LNG and coal to Korea,” he said at a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, at the Blue House, Wednesday (04/01).

According to the President, economic cooperation between the two countries must be further enhanced to minimize the negative impacts of global issues in this rapidly changing global order, including the dynamics in the Middle East.

“I believe there is a need for us to increase economic cooperation between the two countries so we can minimize the negative impacts of such global issues,” he added.

President Lee went on to say that cooperation between the two countries that shared values of democracy, free trade, and rules-based order serves as a strong foundation in facing global crises.

On that occasion, President Lee also expressed his hope to have an open and constructive exchange of views, not only on the enhancement of bilateral relations, but also on the joint contributions to international community.

“Today, I look forward to exchanging views with President Prabowo, not only on advancing our bilateral relations but also on exploring various ways to contribute together to the international community as responsible middle-power nations,” he stated.

He also conveyed his respect to President Prabowo’s leadership and his deepest condolences to Indonesian service members who participated in peacekeeping operation in Lebanon who had passed away due to an explosion.

Concluding his remarks, President Lee warmly welcomed President Prabowo’s state visit to the Republic of Korea and affirmed his commitment to enhance strategic partnership with Indonesia. This meeting is an important part in the efforts to bolster bilateral ties and at the same time strengthen the roles of both countries as middle powers that contribute to global stability and peace.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/MMB)
