Ministry of Villages, Development of Underdeveloped Regions and Transmigration on behalf of the Government of Indonesia sent three village heads as the representatives in the 8th ASEAN Plus Three Village Leaders Exchange Programme, to be held in Yunnan, People’s Republic of China, on 5 to 11 May 2019.

The forum is aimed at building the capacities of village leaders by sharing knowledge about economic development, infrastructure development and human resource development in order to enhance the development of rural communities in ASEAN countries.

“I thank the Chinese Government for organizing the forum which involves many village leaders or village heads across all ASEAN countries,” Secretary General of Ministry of Villages, Development of Underdeveloped Regions and Transmigration Anwar Sanusi said when sending off three village heads at the Ministry’s Office, Jakarta, Friday (3/5).

Anwar expressed belief that the forum will be beneficial for the participants. In this forum, they can share knowledge and experiences on rural vitalization strategy, poverty alleviation, and community development planning. In fact, the participants can also share best practices and knowledge not only among the Asean member states since China and other Asian countries including South Korea and Japan will also participate in that forum.

I do believe there will be numerous opportunities to exchange ideas about development and empowerment of rural communities in the forum,” Anwar added.

A working network among the governments will be established as a result of this forum that is expected be able to serve as a platform to exchange ideas, views, and innovation on rural areas which can improve development as well as rural communities’ empowerment,” he asserted.

In the meantime, Sumaryono, a village head from Margasakti, North Bengkulu, representing Indonesia in the forum admitted that he is proud to represent all village heads in Indonesia in the 8th ASEAN Plus Three Village Leaders Exchange Programme.
