Indonesia Pushes for Peace Resolution of Myanmar, Strengthened Regional Cooperation at the 46th ASEAN Summit

Indonesia has encouraged concrete actions to resolve crisis in Myanmar and strengthen regional cooperation. At the retreat session of the 46th ASEAN Summit, Minister for Foreign Affairs Sugiono mentioned that the leaders of ASEAN member countries specifically discuss the current situation in Myanmar and actions to be taken in the future.
“[The discussion] is held to settle the conflict in Myanmar, and also how the region, how ASEAN faces the changing situation, the current geoeconomic situation,” the Foreign Minister said in his press statement in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia, Monday (05/26).
On the margin of the Summit, Minister for Foreign Affairs stated that President Prabowo also had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Lao PDR Sonexay Siphandone and Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong. During the meeting, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation, especially in the economic sector.
“In both bilateral meetings, the President said that it is necessary to enhance the cooperation relation, especially in the economic sector, so what has been discussed at the Summit, during the plenary session, can be implemented concretely,” he added.
The Foreign Minister also mentioned that the ASEAN Summit will have a number of important agenda on the second day of the summit, such as the meeting of ASEAN and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
“There will be a meeting between ASEAN and GCC, and also China. Tomorrow, we will have a series of meetings to attend,” he said. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of Presidential Secretariat) (AW/MUR)
