Indonesia Sets Example in Building Democracy, Home Minister Says

images-6Indonesia has been seen as a role model in building a democratic civilization for countries worldwide as the country is about to hold a ‘fiesta of democracy’, according to Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo.

As one of the largest democracies in the world, he added, Indonesia is deemed capable of holding Legislative and Presidential and Vice Presidential elections simultaneously with a very high level of voter turnout.

“We must be proud. Indonesia sets an example for countries worldwide in building a democratic civilization based on Pancasila state ideology and the 1945 Constitution as the country is able to hold the elections simultaneously,” he said in Jakarta, Sunday (14/4).

Tjahjo went on to say that one indicator of successful elections is high level of voter turnout. He also invited the public to exercise their rights to vote on 17 April 2019.

“Do come to the polling stations and cast your vote. Let us exercise our rights as a form of constitutional responsibility to support the development of Indonesian democratic civilization,” he said.

The Minister also called on the public to assist the General Elections organizers by casting vote in an orderly manner for the sake of smooth and peaceful elections..

“Let us make the Legislative and Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections on 17 April 2019 a success by casting vote in an orderly, safe, smooth, and peaceful manner,” Tjahjo said. (Ministry of Home Affairs PR/EN)
