Indonesia Successfully Achieves Rice Self-Sufficiency, President Prabowo Says

President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia has managed to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production by December 31, 2025.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, during this year’s Christmas celebration, I can proudly say that Indonesia as of December 31, 2025 has successfully achieved rice self-sufficiency,” he said during the 2025 National Christmas Celebration at the Senayan Indoor Tennis, Jakarta, on Monday (01/06).
The President added that self-sufficiency in rice production is Indonesia’s national strategic target which is set to be achieved in four years, yet the target was successfully met ahead of schedule through hard work and collaboration of all parties.
He went on to say that throughout 2025, Indonesia did not import rice at all, marking a new milestone in national food security.
This achievement not only strengthens domestic food resilience but also has a positive impact on the global economy. According to the President, Indonesia’s decision to stop importing rice has contributed to significantly lower global rice prices by hundred of dollars.
In addition, the Government is strengthening agricultural sector, improving farmers’ welfare, and utilizing technology and innovation in agriculture to maintain rice self-sufficiency. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/LW)
