Indonesia to Hold Simultaneous Elections in 270 Regions Next Year

TPSAs many as 270 regions will hold simultaneous regional elections next year, Ministry of Home Affairs has announced.

“The simultaneous elections will be held in 9 provinces, 224 regencies, and 37 cities. Initially, there are 269 regions, but Makassar mayoral election will be re-run, so the elections will be held in 270 regions,” said Head of the Ministry’s Information Center Bahtiar said in Jakarta.

According to him, Makassar mayoral election will be re-run since there was a sole candidate who was defeated by a blank box.

The simultaneous regional elections next year, Bahtiar added, constitute the fourth round of simultaneous regional elections held for regional heads as a result of the 2015 elections.

Of the 270 regions, nine provinces will hold gubernatorial elections, namely West Sumatera, Jambi, Bengkulu. Riau Islands, Central Kalimantan. South Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Central Sulawesi.

In the meantime, regencies/cities that will hold simultaneous regional elections next year include Medan City, Bukittinggi City, Dumai City, Batang Hari Regency, Musi Rawas Regency, South Lampung Regency, East Belitung Regency, Batam City,  Sukabumi Regency, Depok City, Surakarta City, Bantul Regency, Surabaya City, South Tangerang City, Denpasar City, Mataram City, Sambas Regency, and Banjarmasin City.
