President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered his Cabinet members to prepare for the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) to be held in Indonesia in 2022.

“The conference is slated to be held in Bali. We need to prepare for the event,” the President said during the Limited Cabinet Meeting through a video conference on the Preparation for the 2022 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR), Thursday (15/10) at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.

The President said that the GPDRR is an international forum that will be attended by delegates form 193 countries. “It will become a big event and will be attended by approximately 5,000-7,000 participants. Therefore, it must be well prepared,” the President said.

The world-scale conference, the President continued, is important for the national interest and for Indonesia’s role in reducing global disaster risk.

“We must seize this opportunity of the presence of delegates from 190 countries as the momentum to promote Indonesia tourism,” the President said, adding that Indonesia has a wealth of experience in hosting various international conferences.

For the record, the GPDRR is a biennial forum established by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) to review progress, share knowledge and discuss the latest developments and trends in reducing disaster risk. (FID/UN)
