Indonesia to Strengthen Economic Cooperation With UAE

There are three development sectors in Indonesia that could be prioritized for cooperation between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has stated.  

First, the construction of Indonesia’s new capital city. To build a new capital city, at least US$ 35 billion is needed,” President Jokowi said at the Indonesia – United Arab Emirates Investment Forum in Dubai, Thursday (11/04).

The second sector, the President added, is ​​energy transition. President Jokowi has reaffirmed commitment to ensuring smooth energy transition by inviting investors and developing technology at affordable price.

“If you are interested in investing in new and renewable energy, this is the right time. Indonesia has enormous and diverse potentials, including in hydropower, solar power, geothermal energy and others,” the President said to the UAE investors.

The third priority sector that the President mentioned was the trade sector. President Jokowi underscored the importance of trade diversification and the negotiation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

“I hope that by March next year the negotiation will be completed,” President Jokowi said.

After attending the Indonesia – UAE Investment Forum, President Jokowi witnessed the signing of the MoU between Ministry of Investment/the BKPM and Air Products and Chemical from the United States in the coal gasification industry and its derivatives. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/LW)
