Indonesia, Türkiye Celebrate 75 years of Diplomatic Relations

Strategic relations between Indonesia and Türkiye have entered a new chapter as President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Wednesday (02/12) paid a state visit to Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java province.
According to President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, the momentum not only marked the 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, but also the joint commitment to strengthen strategic cooperation in various sectors.
“The state visit is such an honor for us because at the same time, we celebrate the 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Türkiye. Indonesia and Türkiye have a very special emotional connection because our relations have been established for such a long time. It has been hundreds of years since we made a connection with the people of Türkiye,” the President said in his press statement.
During the visit, both leaders had the first High Level Strategic Council meeting, which was the highest bilateral forum for the two countries.
President Prabowo Subianto said that the meeting was intensive and productive, resulting in a joint commitment to strengthen partnership between the two countries.
“This partnership is for the peoples’ welfare of both countries and cooperation in order to create a better new world order that leads to global peace and stability,” he mentioned.
The Indonesian President also said that both state leaders discussed various cooperation in parallel with national priorities of both countries.
In the economic sector, Indonesia and Türkiye are committed to improving trade between the two countries by upholding mutual benefit principle, including boosting comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) finalization.
“We agree to extend the market access for the products of both countries,” the President said.
Both leaders also agree to strengthen cooperation in defense and security, covering military education and training development, intelligent cooperation, and counter-terrorism.
“We also agree to elevate our production and cooperation in defense industry sector,” he continued.
Additionally, cooperation in health sector is also included in the discussion, and at the global level, both leaders reiterated their support for the two-state solution in creating peace in Palestine.
“We would like to emphasize that Indonesia and Türkiye are of the opinion that the solution for creating peace in Palestine is by recognizing the independence of Palestine with the two-state solution. We also promote peace establishment in Syria and Ukraine,” President Prabowo Subianto remarked.
Concluding his remarks, the Indonesian President affirmed that President Erdoğan’s visit has shown a new chapter in both countries’ strategic partnership and would be a historical momentum in commemorating 100 years of Indonesia and Türkiye’s partnership in 2050.
Meanwhile, President Erdoğan stated that they discussed Indonesia and Türkiye’s strategic partnership that has been established since 2011.
