Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo Tuesday (05/02) said that Indonesian contingent for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia will do their best in achieving target set by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Earlier, President Jokowi expressed his confidence that the Indonesian contingent who will compete in this multi-sport event will rank higher than last year’s SEA Games in Vietnam, meaning that the contingent must bag more than 69 gold medals.

The Minister has estimated that Indonesia would bag 60 gold medals and rank the third place. Nevertheless, he continued, the target set by President Jokowi will serve as motivation for the Indonesian contingent to strive towards better achievement.

“It is our hope that President Jokowi’s motivation and target can spur the spirit of all athletes to exceed the target,” Dito said in his statement after attending the Indonesian Contingent’s Send-off Ceremony for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia at the Ground of Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

Furthermore, the Minister said that all athletes who will compete in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia have trained hard, are full of spirit and optimism to win and bring home the medals.

“We ensure that all athletes of all sports branches are ready. They have the potential to win gold medals. Let us pray. We are optimistic that the target can be achieved. This is sports, anything can happen,” he remarked. (FID/TGH/UN) (AP/RAS/MUR)
