President Prabowo Subianto was warmly greeted upon his arrival at a hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (07/05). Several state officials, members of the Indonesian Embassy in Brasília, and members of the Indonesian diaspora in Brazil welcomed the President’s arrival.

A young Indonesian boy, dressed in traditional Bugis attire, approached President Prabowo and presented him with flowers as a gesture of welcome. President Prabowo accepted the flowers, shook the boy’s hand, and had a brief conversation with a smile.

The Head of the Indonesian Diaspora in Brazil, Isak Hatun, expressed his enthusiasm for personally welcoming the President. He noted that although the Indonesian diaspora in Brazil is not large in number, their spirit to uphold the nation’s good reputation remains strong.

He also had the chance to speak directly with President Prabowo, introduced his family background from Maluku and shared that they have lived in Brazil for several years. According to Isak, President Prabowo warmly listened to his story.

“The President was very pleased to hear about my family and about my parents, who previously worked as missionaries in Brazil for several years,” he added.

Isak also expressed hope that this visit would bring success and strengthen the relations between the two countries. “We wish you success in Brazil, and we, the Indonesian diaspora, will always serve as ambassadors for Indonesia, upholding the nation’s good reputation in Brazil,” he stated.

Another Indonesian citizen, Tukini, also expressed her joy at meeting President Prabowo. She said this occasion was even more special because she was able to shake his hand directly.

“This is actually my second time meeting the President. I am happy to share this story with my family in Indonesia and in Nganjuk. I am very happy,” she said with a smile.

She also conveyed a message for President Prabowo. “Always stay healthy, and hopefully the President can continue to support the Indonesian people to keep progressing,” she said. (BPMI) (EST/MMB)
