Indonesian Gov’t Extends Condolences on Passing of Former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia expressed its deep condolences on the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013.

The message was conveyed by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono on Wednesday (7/15) at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Jakarta.

“Innalillahi wa innailaihi rojiun. Our deep condolences on the passing of Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” said Sugiono.

According to the Minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was an important figure behind the development and transformation of Qatar, as it has become one of the most influential countries in the world.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Sugiono added, also played a vital role in strengthening bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Qatar.

“Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was a leader who succeeded in transforming Qatar into an influential nation. In the context of relations with Indonesia, he played a vital role in building a strong relationship between the countries, which is now being carried forward by his successor and President Prabowo Sugianto,” Sugiono explained.

Sugiono also offered prayers for the deceased and expressed his sympathy to the people of Qatar.

“May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala receive him into His loving embrace, and may the people of Qatar be granted strength and remain inspired by the legacy of this late leader and fighter,” he said.

Regarding the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Qatar, Sugiono expressed his hope that cooperation between the two countries will continue to grow. He also underlined that Qatar is a strategic partner for Indonesia in pursuing shared goals.

“As we have managed, we will continue this harmonious relationship. I believe Qatar has a strategic role as our partner in achieving our shared goals, as targeted by the Government,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/EP)
