Indonesia’s Covid-19 Cases Rise to 172

The Indonesian Government on Tuesday (17/3) confirmed 38 new infections of covid-19, bringing the total confirmed cases to 172.

The Government’s spokesperson on covid-19 Achmad Yurianto reported that the additional cases mostly came from capital Jakarta, East Java province, Central Java province, and Riau Islands province.

In general, Yuri continued, those 172 patients are in stable condition, with 9 of them recovered and some are waiting for the second medical check-up to test they are already recover.

”From today’s check, some of them showed negative results (for covid-19). We need to wait two more days to check them up again. If tested negative, they can be discharged,” Yuri said.

The Government has also announced it has prepared 227 hospitals to treat covid-19 patients.

“Of 227 hospitals, 109 are the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI)’s hospitals, 53 are the National Police’s hospitals and 65 are state-owned hospitals,” Yuri said, adding that only those tested positive for the virus are hospitalized.

For the people who tested negative but showed some corona-like symptoms, he added, they are asked to do self-quarantine at home. (PR of Ministry of Health/EN)
