International Cooperation in East Luwu Regency Expected to Boost Economy
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has welcomed the cooperation that has been agreed by companies in East Luwu regency with a number of countries, namely Brazil, China and the United States.
The President expressed hope that this cooperation will contribute to improving people’s welfare in South Sulawesi province.
“In East Luwu regency, South Sulawesi province, there will be cooperation between four countries which in the future is expected to contribute to non-tax state revenue in the province, in the district, and may improve the welfare of the people. That is what we want,” said the President when inaugurating the Sawerigading Wallacea Biodiversity Park at PT Vale Indonesia, East Luwu regency, South Sulawesi province, Thursday (03/30).
The companies joined in the cooperation consisted of the world’s largest companies.
“We hope that the economic effect on the province and our country will provide better economic growth,” said the President.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the reason these companies were interested in entering Indonesia is because Indonesia has the largest nickel reserves in the world.
“This is what we need to remember that our country’s nickel reserves is the largest, number 1 in the world, 25 percent of nickel reserves are in our country. That is our strength and we don’t want nickel to run out because it has been exported in raw form for years. Therefore, since 2020 I have stopped, no longer allow [nickels] export in raw form and must be in semi-finished or finished goods,” said the President. (BPMI/UN) (EST/MMB)
