Introductory Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia During the Limited Cabinet Meeting Through Video Conference on the Additional Discussion for the Anticipation of Anual Exodus Tuesday, 21 April 2020 at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Good morning,
Peace and prosperity be upon us all.
Let me go straight to the point.
So based on the results of the research on the ground, the deepened research on the ground, as well as the results of a survey conducted by Ministry of Transportation, we found that 68 percent of people will not participate in the annual exodus (mudik), while 24 percent still insist on leaving, and 7 percent have left.
It means that we still have a very large number, which is 24 percent of the people.
Related to social assistance, we have started to provide social aid yesterday. We have launched the distribution of staple food to Greater Jakarta and the Pre-employment Card program. Direct cash aid will be also carried out by this week.
For that reason, I’d like to announce a decision. After prohibiting State Civil Apparatus (ASN), Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel, the National Police (Polri) personnel, and the state-owned enterprises (BUMN) employees from returning to their hometowns, at today’s meeting I would like to say that we will also ban a massive exodus. Therefore, I ask for any preparations regarding the issue.
And that concludes my remarks.
