Introductory Remarks of the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Limited Meeting on Smuggling Issues, 25 January 2017, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta
Unofficial English Translation
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
May peace be upon all of us.
I think we are all aware of the critical map, the image of the situation, and the problems in the field regarding smuggling. Now, the key to solve the problem is to carry out actions of prevention, supervision, and law enforcement. I want concrete actions because the circulation of smuggled products not only harm our national economy, but also destroy our national industries.
I would like to reiterate my statement in the previous limited meeting. First, we should limit smuggling activities by building effective prevention and supervision system. Second, in the previous limited meeting, I have also given the order to prioritise site supervision, especially in smuggling-prone points, in the points of the areas we have identified. Third, related to law enforcement, once again, I want the implementation to be more firm, more consistent, more strict, and sustainable. I demand the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and Attorney General Office to fully support the law enforcement efforts, to process and solve every existing smuggling case. Prosecute officials who take part in the smuggling act, especially those who are backing the perpetrators. Everyone involved must be prosecuted with zero tolerance.
That is all my introductory remarks for today’s meeting. (PR Cabinet Secretariat) (VF/AW/YM/Naster)
