Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung believes that a movie can be a media to promote Indonesia. Therefore, now it is the time for young directors to not only making movies but also to promote Indonesia’s tourist destinations.

“I think it’s time to promote Indonesia, for example a movie about ten tourist destinations besides Bali, such as Mandalika, Borobudur, Toba Lake, Bunaken, Raja Ampat, etc,” Pramono Anung said in his office, Cabinet Secretary Building, 2nd floor, Friday (31/3).

In an interview to celebrate National Movie Day that commemorated on 30 March, the Cabinet Secretary believes that movies that feature Indonesia’s tourist destinations will be really attractive.

He was referring to “Eat, Pray, Love” that was successful to make Bali more famous although this Island is already popular.

“If we want Indonesian movie to be more advanced and popular, it should tell about the culture of this country so it will attract foreign viewers,” Pramono said while mentioning several names of young directors who are able to make this kind of movie, such as Fajar Nugros, Hanung Bramantyo, etc. He also mentioned several examples of movie that can attract foreign and domestic viewers , such as “Laskar Pelangi” that promoted Belitung, and “Ayat-Ayat Cinta”, a religious-themed movie.

In the administration of President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla, according to Pramono Anung, in particular over the last six months, the quality of Indonesian movie has shown major improvement since Investment Negative List (DNI)  has been removed. “Indonesian movie, in Pak Jokowi Administration, can receive full foreign investment, since DNI has been removed, he added. This removal also gives opportunities to producers as well as directors to cooperate with anyone.”

Cabinet Secretary noticed that Indonesian movies quite dominate big cinemas, such as in Cineplex 21, Blitzmegaplex, etc.“Slowly and surely Indonesian movies will dominate movie sector in Indonesia because I see these movies have shown a remarkable progress,” he further said.

Favorite Indonesian Movie

The Cabinet Secretary admitted that watching a movie is a good way to relax. He has two favorite movies.“I like Warkop movies and I was lucky that I had a chance to watch Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss. I also watched My Stupid Boss,” Mas Pram, Pramono Anung’s nickname, said. (RMI/JAY/ES)(MMB/YM/Naster)
