Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit to Operate in March 2019

Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi targets Jakarta’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) to be operational in early March 2019.

The MRT will operate from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle MRT Station to the Lebak Bulus MRT Station.

“We are still waiting for the certification of the last two MRT stations,” the Minister said after trying to travel on the MRT, Thursday (14/2).

According to Budi, the fare of the MRT will be decided by Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta and Ministry of Transportation. There are various schemes of to determine it, but one thing for sure the Government is going to give subsidy. If not, it will be too expensive for the public.

The Minister also appreciated PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta’s effort in materializing an excellent MRT that is ready to operate commercially to serve the public.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the Japanese Government for providing the best, the latest and the most sophisticated technology for our MRT,” Budi concluded. (Humas Kemenhub/ES)
