Jakarta-Surabaya Toll Road to Operate in December 2018

The Indonesian Government at the end of this year is expected to inaugurate several infrastructure projects that have been built in the past 4 years, including Jakarta-Surabaya toll road, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said at the opening of 2018 Kompas 100 CEO at Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, Tuesday (27/11).

As for Merak-Banyuwangi toll road, the President added, the construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2019.

As for Trans Sumatra Toll Road, the Bakauheni to Terbanggi Besar section that spans 148 kilometers will be inaugurated in December, he added.

“For Bakauheni – Palembang toll road with the total length of 350 kilometers, the construction is targeted to be finished in June, or even April (next year),” the President said, adding that the completion of this toll road is expected to support next year Eid’s annual exodus (known as mudik).

President Jokowi added that at the end of this year the Government will also complete the Kuala Tanjung port in North Sumatra.

In the meantime, other projects to be completed next year is the construction of Makassar New Port in January and the 3rd runway of Soekarno-Hatta airport in mid-2019, the President said

The construction of the third runway at Soekarno-Hatta airport, aims to increase capacity of the airport and designed to accommodate large aircraft such as Boeing 777s.  The third runway is also expected to accommodate the rising number of passengers and aircraft movements, he said.

The airport currently can handle 81 movements per hour.

“I have told my Ministers, including Minister of Transportation, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing and Minister of SOEs to speed up the completion of those projects to keep up and compete with other countries,” President Jokowi concluded. (FID/JAY/ES)
