January-May 2017, 34.6 Million Airline Passengers Travel to Domestic Destinations
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) informed that the number of airplane passengers who travel on domestic routes in May 2017 was 7.2 million people or increased by 2.47 percent compared to April 2017. Meanwhile, the number of passengers on international routes decreased by 3.83 percent or only 1.3 million people.
During January-May 2017, the number of domestic passengers was 34.6 million people or increased by 9.84 percent compared to the same period last year which figure was 32.5 percent. In the meantime, there were 6.7 million people foreign passengers or increased by 13.33 percent compared to the same period in 2016, said K. Suhariyanto, the Head of BPS, in his statement at the office of BPS, Jakarta, Monday (3/7) morning.
This increase occurs in several airports, such as Hasanudin Makassar 5.56 percent; Ngurah Rai Denpasar 4.95 percent; Juanda Surabaya 0.54 percent; and Soekarno Hatta Jakarta 0.17 percent.
Soekarno Hatta Jakarta recorded the highest increase. It reached 8.5 million people or 24.74 percent out of the total of domestic passengers, followed by Juanda Surabaya with 3.1 million people or 8.87 percent, Suhariyanto said.
Regarding international routes, the Head of BPS state that in May 2017, there were 1.3 million people travel by plane or decreased by 3.83 percent compared to April 2017.
Soekarno Hatta Airport recorded the biggest number of passengers travelling to international destinations. There are 591.4 thousand people of 44.07 percent out of the total figure, followed by Ngurah Rai as much as 471.6 thousand people or 35.14, he said. (Humas BPS/ES) (MMB/YM/Naster)
