Japan Emperor Hosts President Jokowi

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo Wednesday (07/27) visited Emperor of Japan Naruhito and Empress Masako at Japan Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

Upon arrival at the main terrace of the Emperor’s residence, the President Jokowi and the First Lady were welcomed by the Emperor and the Empress.

“Welcome, I am very grateful to meet with President Jokowi again,” Emperor Naruhito said, to which the President responded: “Thank you for your reception His Majesty.”

After reception, The President and First Lady entered the meeting room and had discussion. After the 30-minute meeting, the President and First Lady bid farewel and left the Emperor’s residence.

The President also said “I will wait for your visit to Indonesia, His Majesty,” to which the Emperor responded: “Thank you. I wish for your happiness and success President Jokowi.”

Born on February 23, 1960, Naruhito is the 126th Emperor of Japan and was officially inaugurated on May 1, 2019. His reign period, called the Reiwa era, means “beautiful harmony”. Naruhito became Emperor after his father abdicated on April 30, 2019. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (AS/EP)
