Kendal Industrial Zone: the New Cooperation Icon between Indonesia and Singapore

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo with Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong inaugurated Kendal Industrial Zone in Kendal, Central Java, on Monday (14/11). A reputable developer, Jababeka in collaboration with a Singaporean company, develops the industrial zone that features a tagline “Park by the bay”.

The inauguration was marked with the pressing of the siren button simultaneously by the two leaders and followed by the signing of the inscription by President Jokowi and PM Lee respectively.

In his remarks, President Jokowi expressed his content to visit Kendal Industrial Zone. He mentioned that the industrial zone is the new icon of the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore. “I hope the cooperation could continue to be followed up,” he said.

President stated that Kendal Industrial Zone has been appointed as a priority zone.

To support this industrial zone, according to President, the Government would keep ensuring the availability of five infrastructures, which are transportation, gas and electricity, telecommunication, water resources and sanitation, as well as human and technology resources.

President believed that the development and management of the infrastructure will support the economic growth in the area and contribute to the welfare of the community around the area.

“For this purpose, I urge the construction of Pemalang, Batang and Semarang highway corridor to be completed immediately,” said President Jokowi.

Therefore, President Jokowi asserted that investors should not hesitate to invest in Kendal Industrial Zone (KIK), namely in the sectors of fashion industry, furniture, food industry, smart industry and manufacturing, and many more.

Moreover, President also reminded the investors that Kendal Industrial Zone should also bring benefit to the society, particularly the people of Kendal and Central Java.

Previously, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo on his remarks affirmed that Central Java is ready to support the existence of Kendal Industrial Zone by providing the ease of investment licensing process as well as educated and skillful manpower resources.

Also attending the event were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto, Minister of Tourism Arif Yahya, Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukito, Minister of Communications and Informatics Rudiantara, Head of Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong, and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.(RAH/ES)(SU/LW/Naster)
